Super Eagles to arrive Russia on Monday

The Super Eagles of Nigeria will end their pre-World Cup camp in Austria on Monday and head for Russia aboard a chartered flight.

Gernot Rohr and his men have spent six days at the Bad Tatzmanndsdorf resort in Austria, where they are finalising their preparations for the tournament.
“We will leave Austria for Russia in great expectation on Monday and I enjoin Nigerian to support the team as we try to make the nation proud,” a camp source revealed.
The Eagles will use the city of Yessentuki as their base camp for the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia, according to Vladimir Vladimirov, the Governor of the Stavropol Territory where Yessentuki is located.
Nigeria will face Croatia in their opening game on June 16.

Liverpool legend Kenny Dalglish Knighted

Liverpool and Scotland legend Kenny Dalglish has been knighted in the Queen's Birthday Honours list.
The 67-year-old, who won the European Cup three times while playing for the Reds and later managed the club, said he was "humbled but gratified".

He was also recognised for supporting Hillsborough victims and his charity work with the Marina Dalglish Appeal.
"I thought it was a tax bill," Dalglish told BBC Radio Merseyside. "For the family, it's a huge honour."

Dalglish, who started his career at Celtic, is Scotland's most-capped player, having made 102 appearances for his country.

He said:
"It won't make any difference to me, I'll just maybe need to change my passport!
"But just because we're a wee bit embarrassed about it doesn't underestimate how pleased and proud we are to have received it.
"I hope everyone who came into our lives enjoys it as well."
Dalglish is the only sporting figure knighted in the Queen's Birthday Honours list.

Joshua receives OBE

World heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua has received an OBE in the Queen's Birthday Honours.

The Nigerian born currently holds WBA, IBF and WBO titles after winning his March unification clash with Joseph Parker and was honoured for his services to boxing.

This is the latest accolade for the 28-year-old Joshua, who was rewarded with an MBE in 2013 after claiming an Olympic gold medal at the London 2012 Games.

Joshua hopes to face WBC champion Deontay Wilder, with all the major belts at stake, but admits negotiations must remain 'realistic'.

A WBA mandatory title defence against Alexander Povetkin could firstly take place in September, if the Wilder fight cannot be agreed for this year.

Halep wins maiden Grand Slam in Paris

Simona Halep sealed her maiden Grand Slam title with a relentless performance to beat Sloane Stephens and win the French Open.

The 26-year-old had lost her three previous major showpiece encounters - including twice at Roland Garros - but recovered from a set and a break down to win 3-6 6-4 6-1 in two hours and three minutes.

Halep, who came into the final with back-to-back victories against two-time Grand Slam champions Angelique Kerber and Garbine Muguruza, stopped Stephens securing a second major triumph after an absorbing contest.
"I was dreaming for this moment since I've started to play tennis," Halep said.
"When I was down a break in the second set I thought 'Everything is gone, I'm gonna start to relax and enjoy the match,' and I came back."
Meanwhile Dominic Thiem will face Rafael Nadal in the men's final of French Open later today.
