Ighalo hat-trick helps Nigeria beat Libya

Odion Ighalo hit his first hat-trick for Nigeria as the Super Eagles defeated Libya 4-0 on Saturday in their 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier.

Nigeria, who failed to qualify for the last two Nations Cups in 2015 and 2017, boosted their hopes of reaching Cameroon 2019 with a convincing win over Libya in Uyo.

Former Watford star Ighalo, set the Super Eagles on their way with a penalty in the fourth minute.

The 29-year-old struck again in the second half with a goal after 58 minutes and completed his hat-trick with 20 minutes remaining.

Samuel Kalu made it 4-0 for the hosts with a 90th minute strike.

Henry appointed Monaco head coach

Former Arsenal striker Thierry Henry has been appointed as head coach of Monaco until June 2021.

The 41-year-old Frenchman, who had been Belgium's assistant manager, began his professional career at Monaco and helped them win Ligue 1 in 1997.

The club are third from bottom in Ligue 1 and
sacked manager Leonardo Jardim on Thursday.
"It seems like fate that I will begin my managerial career here," said Henry, who is Arsenal's record goalscorer.
The former Juventus, Barcelona and New York Red Bulls player was linked with Aston Villa in recent weeks and said he received some "very attractive offers" over the last few months.
"Monaco will always be close to my heart," he added. "I'm incredibly excited to be given this opportunity but now the hard work must begin."
Monaco have won just once all season in all competitions. In Ligue 1 they have six points from nine games with five defeats and they have lost both games in the Champions League.

Henry's first game in charge will be against Strasbourg in the league on 20 October, before a Champions League tie with Club Brugge four days later.

Schumacher's son wins European F3 title

Mick Schumacher, the son of seven-time Formula 1 world champion Michael, won the Formula 3 European title with a race to spare.

The 19-year-old finished second in race two of the season finale in Hockenheim, Germany, to establish an unassailable lead in the drivers' standings.

Prema driver Schumacher has won eight races this season and held a 49-point advantage coming into the final round.
"I am absolutely delighted," German Schumacher said.
"What this team has achieved over the last year is unbelievable."
Schumacher, who failed to score in the opening race in Hockenheim following a first-lap collision, only needed to avoid dropping 15 points to title rival Dan Ticktum in race two.

Ticktum's Motopark team-mate Juri Vips won race two from pole position, and with Ticktum coming home in seventh, Schumacher's second-place finish was enough to seal championship victory.

Schumacher's title comes a year after he placed 12th overall in his debut F3 season.

Djokovic, 31, is on a 17-match winning streak, a run that includes titles at the US Open and Cincinnati Masters. The Wimbledon champion last lost a match in the Rogers Cup third round on 10 August.
"Being number two after this tournament is also a great achievement, considering the first four, five months of the year and considering I had the [elbow] surgery," said 14-time Grand Slam champion Djokovic.
"Where I was about four months ago and where I am today is quite an extreme opposite.
"I'm just cherishing that achievement and every moment spent on the court."
