Superb Tottenham inflict first Premier League defeat on Chelsea

Tottenham outplayed Chelsea to inflict the Blues' first Premier League defeat of the season which shows they are capable of "big things", says Spurs manager Mauricio Pochettino.

Pochettino's men displayed a terrific performance to move above their opponents in the table to third, five points behind unbeaten leaders Manchester City, while Chelsea drop down to fourth.

Spurs deservedly scored two goals in the first 16 minutes through midfielder Dele Alli's flicked header from Christian Eriksen's cross, and Harry Kane firing in a drive from long range.
"There's no need for me to talk too much. I am so happy, so pleased," Pochettino said. "I don't need to analyse too much. All credit to the players because they were fantastic."
Son Heung-min had struck straight at goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga when through on goal, and saw a volley pushed away before scoring a brilliant goal in the second half.

The South Korean forward picked the ball up on the halfway line, outpaced Jorginho and darted past David Luiz before rolling a cool finish into the net.

Son told reporters:
"It's amazing. Our performance was very good and we deserved to win. It's an unbelievable night."
Chelsea did manage to pull a goal back with five minutes remaining through substitute Olivier Giroud's powerful header low into the corner.

Henry finally claims first Monaco victory

Thierry Henry has finally claimed his first victory as Monaco boss, thanks to Radamel Falcao's second half free-kick at fellow Ligue 1 strugglers Caen.

The 2017 champions had not won since 11 August and had drawn two and lost four since Henry took over six weeks ago.

While the win did not lift the principality side out of the relegation zone, it did relieve some pressure on the Arsenal and France legend.

Monaco stay 19th but move to within two points of Caen and safety.

Henry, who had been Belgium's assistant manager, replaced the sacked Leonardo Jardim in mid-October with the club third from bottom.

But since his arrival, they have been knocked out of the Champions League and been short of confidence, good fortune and results.

However, Colombia forward Falcao registered his fifth goal of the campaign with a superb 20-yard free-kick to suggest he may be returning to form after a goal drought of nearly two months.

And Henry's side got the benefit of a VAR decision in added on time, when Caen winger Malik Tchokounte's effort was disallowed for an offside against Paul Baysse. That ensured a first clean sheet for Monaco since August, as well as a first win since the opening weekend.

James stars on return to Cleveland

LeBron James marked his return to Cleveland with 32 points and 14 rebounds as his Los Angeles Lakers side beat the Cavaliers 109-105.

James, who left the Cavs in July, received a standing ovation from fans as well as a video tribute after scoring the first points of the game.

The 33-year-old also made seven assists as the Lakers came from behind to record their sixth win in seven games.
"To come back and get the reception I got, it means a lot," he said.
"During the 11 years I played for this franchise I tried to give everything I could on and off the court."
Victory saw the Lakers improve their win-loss record to 10-7 - their best since April 2013 - while the Cavs fell to an NBA-worst 2-14.

The Cavs' Jordan Clarkson had given his side a 96-87 lead with back-to-back three-pointers, but James inspired a late Lakers turnaround with a three-pointer, dunk and four free throws.

James helped Cleveland win their first NBA title in 2016, ending the city's 52-year wait for a major sporting trophy.

Pacquiao to fight Broner in January

Manny Pacquiao's defence of his WBA world welterweight title against Adrien Broner will take place on Saturday, 19 January 2019, it has been confirmed.

The contest against the American four-weight world champion will be held at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.

The Filipino, 39, has also reiterated his desire for a rematch against Floyd Mayweather, who beat him in 2015.

Mayweather, 41, has not fought since he beat Irish mixed martial artist Conor McGregor in 2017.

Pacquiao said at Monday's announcement: "When Floyd and I met in Japan [in September] we talked and he said he wants to come out of retirement to fight me."

On his contest against Broner, Pacquiao said: "I chose Broner, because I believe we can have a good fight and entertain the fans - we cannot underestimate him.
"I want to prove I'm still in boxing. I want to entertain people.
"My opponent is fast and a [high] calibre fighter. We have to work hard and train hard for this fight."
