Bayern suffer shock defeat at Mainz

Bayern Munich must wait to be confirmed as Bundesliga champions for the ninth season in a row after they suffered a surprise defeat at Mainz.

The league leaders need just one win from their remaining three games to seal the title.

However, they fell behind early on when Jonathan Burkardt's 18-yard strike beat Germany keeper Manuel Neuer.

Robin Quaison's header made it 2-0 before fit-again Robert Lewandowski got one back in the 90th minute.

Hazard returns, as Real falter in La Liga title pursuit

Real Madrid's title hopes were dented as Zinedine Zidane's side were held to a goalless draw at home to Real Betis.

Real are two points behind Atletico Madrid, who play Athletic Bilbao on Sunday. Barcelona are third, three behind Real but with two games in hand.

Rodrygo struck the crossbar with a mis-hit cross as the defending champions laboured against Manuel Pellegrini's Europa League hopefuls.

Guido Rodriguez was denied by Thibaut Courtois with Betis' best chance.

One positive for Real, who beat Cadiz on Wednesday to move top before Atletico responded with victory over Huesca on Thursday, was the return of Eden Hazard after injury.

The Belgium playmaker was introduced as a 77th-minute substitute for his first league appearance since 13 March.

Next up for Real Madrid is their Champions League semi-final first leg tie at home to Hazard's former club Chelsea on Tuesday (20:00).

Usman knocks out Masvidal to retain UFC welterweight title

Kamaru Usman scored a stunning second-round knockout to finish Jorge Masvidal and retain the undisputed UFC welterweight title at UFC 261 in Florida.

The bout, which took place in front of 15,000 fans in Jacksonville, was a rematch of their meeting at UFC 251, where Masvidal stepped in on six days' notice but lost out to Usman on the scorecards after five gruelling rounds.

American Masvidal, 36, said that he would fare better after a full training camp, while Nigerian Usman, 33, promised to deliver an even more decisive victory in the rematch to register his fourth successive title defence.

Nadal into 12th Barcelona Open final

Rafael Nadal beat fellow Spaniard Pablo Carreno Busta 6-3 6-2 to reach his 12th Barcelona Open final.
Victory sets up a re-match with Greece's world number five Stefanos Tsitsipas, who came back from two sets down to stun Nadal in February's Australian Open quarter-finals.

World number three Nadal, 34, has won all 11 previous finals and has only ever lost four matches in Barcelona.

Tsitsipas, 22, beat Italian Jannik Sinner, 19, 6-3 6-3 to reach the final.

Nadal beat Tsitsipas in the 2018 final, losing just three games, although the Greek did beat him on clay in the semi-finals in Madrid in 2019.
"I will try to redeem myself from last time," said Tsitsipas, who won his first Masters 1,000 event in Monte Carlo last week.
