Rashford's Double Gives United Victory Over Liverpool

Rashford

Marcus Rashford's first-half double inspired Manchester United to a crucial 2-1 victory over rivals Liverpool at Old Trafford on Saturday.

The England forward's thunderous drive fired United into the lead on 14 minutes - his first Premier League goal since December 10 - and he doubled his tally with a deflected second 10 minutes later.

Eric Bailly's 66th-minute own goal handed an improved Liverpool a route back into the game but United withstood a late onslaught to secure their first victory over their rivals since January 2016.

The victory sees Jose Mourinho's men extend their unbeaten league run against Liverpool to eight games and opens up a five-point lead over Jurgen Klopp's side in the race for second.

United face a season-defining week as Sevilla and Brighton travel to Old Trafford in the Champions League and FA Cup respectively.

Liverpool look to return to winning ways when they host Watford in the Premier League at Anfield on Saturday.

Messi Misses Barca Win Over Malaga After Birth Of Son

Barcelona

Barcelona overcame the absence of prolific goalscorer Lionel Messi to beat bottom club Malaga and open up an 11-point lead at the top of La Liga.

Messi, who has scored 24 goals in 27 league games, withdrew from Saturday's match after the birth of his third son.

Luis Suarez's header set Barca on their way before Philippe Coutinho's sublime backheel doubled the lead.

Malaga played an hour with 10 men after Samu Garcia was sent off for an awful challenge on Jordi Alba.

Barcelona's next match is at home to Chelsea in the second leg of the Champions League last-16 on Wednesday. The first leg at Stamford Bridge ended 1-1.

Malaga were the last team to beat Barcelona in the league on 8 April 2017.

Despite Messi's absence, there was never any chance of a repeat once Suarez got on the end of Alba's cross to score his 21st league goal of the season.

Woods & Rose One Off Lead In Florida

Woods

Tiger Woods is one shot off the lead going into the final round of the Valspar Championship in Florida after a four-under-par 67.

The 14-time major winner is on eight under, one behind Canadian Corey Conners, who carded a three-under 68.

Woods, who last won in August 2013, is joint second with England's Justin Rose and fellow American Brandt Snedeker.

Rose's five-under 66 was the joint second lowest round of the day and moved him up five places from seventh.

Woods, 42, started the day tied for second, two adrift of Conners, and carded three birdies on the front nine to go out in 33.

Birdies at the ninth and 10th followed but he stalled briefly after a bogey four at the par-three 13th.

However, he responded with a birdie at the next and closed out his round with four pars.
"I've played myself right into contention, so it should be a fun Sunday," said Woods, who is chasing an 80th US PGA Tour title.
Rose holed a 120-yard wedge for an eagle on the par-five 11th to add to four birdies and a bogey in his impressive round and he will be in the final pairing with Conners on Sunday.

Williams Sisters To Meet In Round Three At Indian Wells

Serena Williams

Serena Williams will play her sister Venus in the third round at Indian Wells as she continues her comeback after the birth of her child.

The 36-year-old American, who was out for 14 months, beat Kiki Bertens of the Netherlands 7-6 (7-5) 7-5 in round two.
"Everything is a bonus," said Serena after winning in one hour, 52 minutes on her second match point.
The sisters last met in the 2017 Australian Open final, when Serena won her 23rd Grand Slam singles title.
"I would prefer to play someone else, anybody else, literally anybody else, but it has to happen now. So it is what it is," said Serena.
Serena was already pregnant with daughter Alexis Olympia, who was born on 1 September, when she beat Venus 6-4 6-4 in Melbourne.

They will play their 29th competitive match on Monday, with Serena having won 17 of the previous 28.
