Barcelona Beat Valencia To Break La Liga Unbeaten Record

Barcelona-BolaEshosBlog

Barcelona set a new La Liga record as a narrow win over Valencia extended their unbeaten league run to 39 matches.

The leaders, fresh from a shock Champions League exit to Roma, led when Philippe Coutinho played in Luis Suarez to beat Neto at his near post.

They looked comfortable when Samuel Umtiti headed in Coutinho's corner.

But the visitors gave them a late scare when Dani Parejo's penalty squirmed underneath Marc-Andre ter Stegen after Ousmane Dembele fouled Andreas Pereira.

Ter Stegen was at the centre of the game's other dramatic moment - when he gifted the ball to Valencia's Carlos Soler but then brilliantly saved Rodrigo's shot onto the crossbar.

Barca, who are now six results from the first unbeaten 38-game La Liga season, only need seven more points to seal the Spanish title.

They face Sevilla in the Copa del Rey final next weekend as they seek a domestic double.

The previous unbeaten La Liga record was Real Sociedad's 38 across 1978-79 and 1979-80.

Wolves Promoted To Premier League

Wolves-BolaEshosBlog

Wolves have been promoted to the Premier League with four games to spare after Fulham drew at home to Brentford.

Fulham needed to win all four of their remaining matches to stand any chance of catching the Championship leaders.

But Neal Maupay's injury-time equaliser earned the Bees a 1-1 draw and ensured Wolves will play in the top flight next season for the first time since 2012.
Wanderers, who host Birmingham on Sunday, require a maximum of four points to be crowned champions.

Nuno Espirito Santo's side have led the Championship table since 18 November and at one stage had looked on course to challenge the Championship record points tally of 106, set by Reading in 2005-06.

A sequence of poor results in January and February saw that possibility diminish, although they could still reach a maximum of 104 points if they win their remaining four games, starting with Sunday's West Midlands derby against Birmingham City.

Ricciardo Wins Thriller In China

Ricciardo-BolaEshosBlog

Red Bull's Daniel Ricciardo took a sensational victory in the Chinese Grand Prix as a chaotic final 20 laps threw the championship wide open.

Ricciardo drove beautifully to pass five cars after Red Bull chose to pit for fresh tyres in a safety car period.

Team-mate Max Verstappen did the same - but threw away his chances with two errors caused by over-optimistic driving.

Lewis Hamilton finished a frustrated fifth, but was promoted back ahead of Verstappen, who was penalised for causing a collision with Ferrari's Sebastian Vettel.

The result means Vettel's lead in the championship over Hamilton has been cut to 11 points, with Bottas only three behind the Briton and Ricciardo a further three behind the Finn.
