Wolves stalls Man Utd's progress

Joao Moutinho's second-half equaliser denied Manchester United a fourth successive win in all competitions as Wolves earned a 1-1 draw at Old Trafford.

Sir Alex Ferguson was in attendance for the first time since undergoing brain surgery in May as Fred became the 500th different player to score a competitive goal for United when he drilled home the opener, wonderfully set up by Paul Pogba in the 18th minute.

Wolves did not let United's opener unsettle them, though, as they remained a real threat and engineered a deserved equaliser for Moutinho in the 53rd minute.

United pressed for the winner, but could not find a way past a stubborn Wolves side who were more than good value for the point that keeps them in the top half.

United sit fifth, eight points behind leaders Liverpool, after a disappointing afternoon that means they've have dropped six points from seven Premier League games at Old Trafford against newly-promoted opposition under Jose Mourinho.

The result dents recent good work from United, who had overcome back-to-back defeats at the end of August by going on a three-match winning streak on the road.

Belgium and France top Fifa rankings to be first ever joint-leaders

Belgium have moved to the top of the Fifa world rankings alongside World Cup winners France - the first time two teams have shared the top spot.

Roberto Martinez's side, who finished third in Russia, have moved up one place to top the ranking for the first time since 2015.

World Cup semi-finalists England stay in sixth place.
The only other change in the top 10 sees Denmark drop below Spain into 10th place.

Germany, who fell from first to 15th place in August after their group stage exit from the World Cup, have moved up to 12th.

The rankings were introduced in December 1992.
Belgium beat Iceland in the Nations League and Scotland in a friendly earlier this month, while France beat the Netherlands, but drew 0-0 with Germany in the Nations League.

Joshua dismantles Povetkin at Wembley

Anthony Joshua defended his world heavyweight titles with a devastating knockout of Alexander Povetkin after overcoming an early onslaught from the Russian at Wembley.

He blasted Povetkin to the canvas with a brutal assault in the seventh round and then floored the WBA mandatory challenger again to signal a sudden and dramatic ending to his 22nd professional victory.

Joshua, who had been suffering from flu during his preparations and had a problem with his right hand before the fight, paid tribute to his opponent.
"Povetkin is a very tough challenger, he proved that with good left hooks and counter punches," he said.
"It could have been seven, maybe nine, maybe 12 rounds to get him out of there, but the ultimate aim was to be victorious.
"And I got my knockout streak back," added Joshua, who was taken to 12 rounds for the first time in his previous fight against New Zealand's Joseph Parker.
With 22 professional bouts under their belts, Wladimir Klitschko, Lennox Lewis and Mike Tyson were still chasing a world title. Joshua, by contrast, has now defended his six times.

Woods leads Tour Championship by three

Tiger Woods says he would "love" to claim his first victory in five years as the American takes a three-shot lead into the final round of the Tour Championship in Atlanta.

Woods carded six birdies in his first seven holes en route to a five-under 65 to improve to 12 under at East Lake.

Rory McIlroy (66) is tied for second with Justin Rose (68) at nine under.
"This whole season has been pretty remarkable considering where I have come from," said Woods.
Woods' last victory came 1,875 days ago in August 2013 when he won the WGC Bridgestone Invitational. He had his latest surgery in April 2017.

The 14-time major winner, who is part of the US team for next week's Ryder Cup, has won 54 of 57 PGA Tour events when holding the 54-hole lead.
"I've got a three-shot lead. I've got a bunch of guys behind me that have been playing well and are playing well, and we'll see what happens," added world number 21 Woods.
Northern Ireland's McIlory will get the chance to partner childhood idol Woods in the final round having finished his third round before Rose.
