Leicester City sack manager Puel

Leicester City have sacked manager Claude Puel after 16 months in charge.

City were beaten 4-1 at home by Crystal Palace on Saturday in what proved to be Puel's final game.
Puel, 57, leaves the club 12th in the Premier League having lost five of their last six league games.

The Frenchman guided Leicester to a ninth-place finish in the Premier League in his first season but the club are now looking for their fourth permanent manager in 23 months.

Saturday's defeat meant Leicester have lost four consecutive home Premier League games for the first time since January 2000 and conceded the first goal in 19 Premier League matches this season - more than any other side.

Assistant manager Jacky Bonnevay will also leave the club, with first-team coaches Mike Stowell and Adam Sadler set to take temporary charge of the squad.

Leicester's next game is at home in the Premier League against Brighton on Tuesday.

Puel was appointed on a three-year deal in October 2017, succeeding Craig Shakespeare who in turn followed 2015-16 Premier League winning manager Claudio Ranieri in managing the club.

The former Lyon boss had been dismissed by Southampton in June 2017 and arrived at Leicester four months later with the club third from bottom of the league.

He led them to ninth in the table, just their second top-10 finish in the Premier League since 2000.

Mbappe passes 50 Ligue 1 goals as PSG go 17 clear

Kylian Mbappe passed 50 Ligue 1 goals with a double as Paris St-Germain beat Nimes to extend their lead at the top of the table to 17 points.

Christopher Nkunku scored from Marco Verratti's pass over the top to put the champions ahead.
Mbappe's landmark strike came when he prodded home Juan Bernat's cross to make it 2-0.

And the 20-year-old added a second after chasing on to Nkunku's pass as PSG countered from a corner.
The World Cup winner is the French top flight's top scorer with 22 goals in 20 games, and he has scored 27 in 31 matches in all competitions.

Dirrell regains WBC super-middleweight world title

Anthony Dirrell regained the vacant WBC super-middleweight world title with a technical split decision over Turkey's Avni Yildirim in Minneapolis.

The fight was stopped in the 10th round because of a cut over Dirrell's eye, caused by an accidental head butt.

The contest went to the scorecards with two judges scoring it to the American and one giving it to Yildirim.
"I wanted to keep going and finish like a champion," said Dirrell, who admitted he did not know how bad the cut was.
The 34-year-old first won the title with a unanimous decision over Sakio Bika in August 2014, only to lose it in his first defence against Badou Jack.

The first title came after he was sidelined for almost two years when was diagnosed with non-Hodgkin lymphoma in 2006.

"This one is just as joyful," he added, after winning the title which was left vacant when American David Benavidez was stripped of the belt and suspended after testing positive for cocaine in August.

Dirrell expects 2019 to be his last year before he retires, but before he departs he's eager for a unification bout against International Boxing Federation title holder Caleb Plant.

Semenya ruling expected in March

The Court of Arbitration for Sport has concluded its Caster Semenya hearing, with a decision expected before the end of March.

South African track star Semenya is challenging a proposal by the IAAF to limit testosterone levels in female athletes competing between 400 metres and a mile.

The two-time Olympic 800 metres champion has a condition called hyperandrogenism which means her testosterone levels are naturally elevated, and the IAAF's proposals would require to her to take medication to reduce those levels.

The case, which began at the Court of Arbitration for Sport on Monday, has now been heard and a judgement is expected by March 26.
