Ranieri handed Roma job

Former Leicester and Chelsea boss Claudio Ranieri has been appointed Roma manager until the end of the season.

Ranieri, 67, was sacked by Fulham eight days ago after winning three of his 17 games in charge.
But the Roma fan - who managed the club between 2009 and 2011 - has been handed a quick return to management, replacing Eusebio di Francesco.
"I'm delighted to be coming back home," Ranieri said on Friday. "When Roma call you, it's impossible to say no."Di Francesco was sacked on Wednesday after losing 4-3 on aggregate to Porto in the Champions League last 16.
Roma sporting director Monchi also left the club earlier on Friday.

Ranieri took over at Fulham last November after the sacking of Slavisa Jokanovic and beat Southampton 3-2 in his first game, but 11 defeats followed including an FA Cup third-round exit at home to League Two side Oldham.

He left the Cottagers after just 106 days with the club 19th in the Premier League, 10 points from safety with 10 games left.

Tottenham to move to new stadium in April

Tottenham will play the first competitive fixture at their new stadium in the first week of April.
Spurs were scheduled to move to the new White Hart Lane stadium in September but construction has been delayed.

Who their first opponents are hinges on Brighton's FA Cup campaign.

If Brighton beat Millwall in the FA Cup on 17 March, Crystal Palace will be Spurs' visitors on 3 April, but if the Seagulls are knocked out, they will be the opposition on 6 or 7 April.

Tottenham said they have worked with the Premier League, Brighton and Palace to ensure the first competitive fixture at the stadium will be a league encounter.

Manager Mauricio Pochettino has said he expects to play their Champions League quarter-final home leg at the venue on 9/10 or 16/17 April, following the draw on 15 March.

Chairman Daniel Levy has previously apologised to fans for delays to the completion of the stadium, which has a capacity of 62,062 and is located on the site of their old White Hart Lane home.

The new stadium - which was expected to cost around £750m - will also stage NFL matches, with Levy stating it would "redefine sports and entertainment experiences".

Farah defends Big Half title in London

Britain's Mo Farah has defended his title in the Big Half race, finishing in one hour one minute 14 seconds in London on Sunday.

The four-time Olympic champion won the half marathon in a sprint finish to beat his time of 1:01:40 in the inaugural event last year.

The 13.1-mile race is the 35-year-old's final one before he goes for a first London Marathon win on 28 April.
In the women's race, Britain's in-form Charlotte Purdue retained her title.

The 27-year-old finished in a time of 1:10:38, with fellow Englishwoman Steph Twell claiming second place ahead of Wales' Charlotte Arter.

"Conditions were a bit tougher than last year here - very windy, rainy - but it was nice. I got the job done, came first and now I'm preparing for the London Marathon and it's a nice stepping stone," Farah told the BBC.
"When I'm in London, the crowds always deliver. It's a great atmosphere and I enjoy racing at home.
"Training has gone well [for the London Marathon]. Obviously I'll have to have a chat with my coach and see how I feel.
"I'm excited. I feel like I have more experience than last year. I've got to go out and do the best I can - but I know I can mix in with the guys."
Farah again hinted at a surprise return to the track to run the 10,000m at October's World Championships in Doha.

LeBron James passes Jordan for fourth in NBA career points

LeBron James overtook Michael Jordan to move into fourth place on the NBA all-time scoring list Wednesday with a driving layup in the second quarter against visiting Denver.

The Los Angeles Lakers playmaker, who had matched the Chicago Bulls legend’s career total of 32,292 with his first 12 points, made history on the layup with 5:38 remaining in the quarter and sank a free throw to complete a 3-point play.

During the next timeout, James went to the bench and buried his head in a towel, appearing to cry while a video tribute played on the scoreboard and he reflected upon the achievement of surpassing his boyhood idol.
“Cant even front,” James tweeted about 90 minutes before tipoff. “This is going to be UNREAL!! Wow man.”
The 34-year-old American forward, the top scorer among active players, made his points in 1,190 games compared to 1,072 for Jordan with the Bulls and Washington.

The next target for James would be retired Lakers star guard Kobe Bryant, who is third on the NBA career list with 33,643 points.

Jordan and James are often compared as the best players in NBA history.

James wears the same No. 23 worn by Jordan.

“I wear the number because of Mike. I fell in love with the game because of Mike,” James said before the game.
“I just take all the accomplishments as they come. It’s just an honor to have my name be mentioned among all the greats.”
