Real Madrid sign Chelsea forward Hazard

Real Madrid have agreed a deal to sign forward Eden Hazard from Chelsea for a fee that could exceed £150m.

Hazard has agreed a five-year contract and will be presented as a Real player on 13 June, subject to a medical.

The Belgian scored 110 goals in 352 games for Chelsea after joining from Lille in 2012, and scored twice as they won the Europa League final last week.
"Leaving Chelsea is the biggest and toughest decision in my career to date," said Hazard.
Writing on Facebook , he added:
"I hope you understand I had to pursue my next chapter, just as each and every one of you should when you have the chance to pursue your dreams.
"Now it's in the open I would like to put on record one thing was always clear to me, I have loved every moment at Chelsea and not once did I ever consider, nor would I have left for any other club."
Real Madrid are paying an initial 100m euros (£89m) for the attacking midfielder, though bonus payments could see Chelsea receive at least another £60m from the sale of the player.

Chelsea director Marina Granovskaia said:
"The memories he leaves us with will not fade.
"He provided all who watched Chelsea play with great entertainment and many match-winning contributions, and for that we thank Eden enormously.

Rohr Announces Nigeria's Final 23-Man AFCON Squad

Nigeria manager Gernot Rohr has announced his final 23-man roster for the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations which begins in Egypt on June 21.

The 23 players selected come from the 25-man provisional roster earlier invited to attend a training camp in the Delta State capital Asaba.

Leicester City striker Kelechi Iheanacho and Rotherham United central defender Semi Ajayi are the players axed by the German football tactician.

There was a hint that both English-based players were not in the plans of Rohr after they were not handed a run-out in the goalless draw against Zimbabwe on Saturday.

John Obi Mikel, Chelsea duo Kenneth Omeruo and Ola Aina, Arsenal's Alex Iwobi, goalkeeper Ikechukwu Ezenwa and eighteen other players will be on the plane to Ismailia this afternoon.

The Super Eagles players and officials were due to depart Asaba this morning but there was a sudden change of travel plans and they will now depart at 1500 hours.

Barty wins French Open for maiden Grand Slam singles title

Australian Ashleigh Barty has beaten Czech teenager Marketa Vondrousova in the French Open final to win her first Grand Slam singles title and complete a fairytale return to the sport.

The eighth seed won 6-1 6-3 against 19-year-old Vondrousova on the Paris clay.

Barty, 23, quit tennis to play professional cricket in 2014, but returned to the sport 17 months later.
Now she is the first Australian to win a singles titles at Roland Garros since Margaret Court in 1973.

After thumping away an overhead on her first match point, Barty turned to her team and raised her hands in the air, placing them on her head in disbelief before dropping to her haunches on the red dirt.
"It is unbelievable, I'm a little speechless, I played almost the perfect match," Barty said.
"It has been a crazy two weeks.
"It is a special place here for Australian players and I'm incredibly proud of what I've been able to achieve."
Barty will climb to second in the world when the latest standings are released next week, making her the highest-ranked Australian woman since Evonne Goolagong Cawley in December 1976.

Despite defeat, 38th-ranked Vondrousova will rise into the top 20 for the first time following a clay-court swing where no other female player has won more matches.

Vettel beats Hamilton to Canada pole position

Ferrari's Sebastian Vettel beat Lewis Hamilton's Mercedes to pole position at the Canadian Grand Prix.

It was only the second time in seven races Mercedes have been beaten to pole - the other by Vettel's team-mate Charles Leclerc in Bahrain in March.
Vettel was 0.206 seconds quicker than Hamilton, with Leclerc 0.680secs off.

Daniel Ricciardo was a surprise fourth for Renault after Red Bull's Max Verstappen was caught out by a crash by Kevin Magnussen in the second session.

Hamilton had been quickest on the first runs in the top 10 shoot-out, by nearly 0.2secs from Vettel, but the German four-time champion pulled out a special lap on his final run.

Vettel whooped with delight over the radio as he took his first pole position since last year's German Grand Prix in July.

Leclerc, who had been swapping fastest times with Vettel for much of the weekend and in the first two parts of qualifying, said he struggled with the car's balance when it mattered, and had also made two mistakes.

Mercedes driver Valtteri Bottas will start sixth after a spin on his first lap and then a scrappy lap on his second attempt.

Hamilton currently leads Bottas by 17 points in the drivers' championship.
