State of Osun has been adjudged the least of States in the Southwest where Female Genital Mutilation is practiced.
This indication was given by the State Commissioner for Women, Children and Social Affairs, Barrister Olubukola Olaboopo while fielding questions from journalists in Osogbo.
The Commissioner enthused that the United Nations Fund report of year 2019 disclosed that the barbaric act of female circumcision is on drastic deadline in the State.
Olubukola explained that it was the collaborative efforts of all stakeholders in sensitizing the people against the harmful practice that yielded the positive result.
She however debunked the belief that uncircumcised women are prone to being sexually promiscuous advancing that, ‘’there is no advantage in female circumcision’’.
She then advised women to speak up and feel free to approach the Ministry of Women, Children and Social Affairs incase of any threat on the issue, stressing that it is now a criminal offence to engage in Female Genital Mutilation and that anyone found guilty will be prosecuted.
