Telawaa: Is A Dupe A Fraudster Or Someone Defrauded?

On TELAWAA (The English Language Academy With Ayo Alonge).

I was in a class with some undergraduates, then I asked:

"If I fraudulently get some money from you, who is the dupe between us?"

They all replied, "you are the dupe".

Blunder!

Note:
The actual dupe is the person defrauded, not the fraudster.

Yes, you heard me. The fraudster isn't the dupe. The victim is the dupe.
