Tottenham go top with victory over Man City

Tottenham Hotspur went top of the Premier League after producing a display of clinical efficiency and tactical discipline to beat Manchester City.

In the usual battle of wits between Jose Mourinho and his old adversary Pep Guardiola, the Spurs manager came out on top as his team's season gathered further momentum.

Son Heung-min put Spurs in front after five minutes, finishing coolly from Tanguy Ndombele's pass before Manchester City had a first-half goal ruled out by VAR for a handball by Gabriel Jesus after Aymeric Laporte's finish.

City continued to enjoy greater possession but Spurs, as you would expect from a Mourinho side, were fiercely drilled and resilient, taking their chance when it came to double their advantage and finish the game.

It came in the 65th minute after a dream substitution from Mourinho, Giovani lo Celso beating Ederson with a low finish from another Kane pass 35 seconds after coming on for Tanguy Ndombele - the only cloud for Spurs coming with a late injury to Toby Alderweireld after an outstanding performance.

Meanwhile, the defeat means Manchester City's 12 points from eight games is lowest points total at this stage of a Premier League season since 2008-09, while their 10 goals scored is their lowest after eight games since 2006-07.

Dortmund’s Haaland wins golden boy award

Borussia Dortmund forward Erling Braut Haaland has won the 2020 Golden Boy award for the best under-21 player playing in a European country's top division.
The 20-year-old Norway international finished ahead of Barcelona and Spain's Ansu Fati and Bayern Munich's Canadian left-back Alphonso Davies.
Haaland has scored 27 goals in 29 appearances for the Bundesliga side.
Atletico Madrid forward Joao Felix won the award in 2019.
Also in contention for the top prize were Haaland's club team-mate and England forward Jadon Sancho and Manchester United striker Mason Greenwood.

Nadal and Djokovic knocked out of ATP Finals

Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic were knocked out of the ATP Finals as Daniil Medvedev and Dominic Thiem set up a title decider.
World number two Nadal served for the match at 5-4 in the second set but Russia's Medvedev hit back brilliantly to win 3-6 7-6 (7-4) 6-3 in London.
He was the more aggressive player throughout and was composed in the decider as errors came from Nadal.
Also, Thiem beat world number one Djokovic 7-5 6-7 (10-12) 7-6 (7-5).
The Austrian trusted his big hitting and fought back from a 4-0 deficit in the deciding third-set tie-break to win in almost three hours.
Unlike Thiem, Medvedev, who had never beaten Nadal, is unbeaten throughout the week at the O2 Arena.
Neither man has won the season-ending event before but Thiem will start Sunday's final as the narrow favourite, having won his first Grand Slam at the US Open in September.
Were world number four Medvedev to win, it would be the biggest victory of his career.
For 20-time Grand Slam champion Nadal, defeat ended his hopes of winning the tournament - one of the few prizes missing from his glittering CV - for the first time.

Mir wins MotoGP title for first time

Spaniard Joan Mir won the MotoGP title for the first time by finishing seventh in the penultimate race of the season in Valencia.
Mir, 23, became the first Suzuki rider to win the championship since American Kenny Roberts Jr in 2000.
Italy's Franco Morbidelli won the Valencia MotoGP after holding off the challenge of Australian Jack Miller on the last lap.
"Unbelievable. I don't have words to describe these emotions," said Mir.
"At the moment, I cannot laugh or cry - it's a mix of emotions. I'm really happy.
"When you follow one dream all your life and then the finally you achieve it... At the moment I don't believe what is happening."
Mir's only victory this season came at the European MotoGP last week.
That put him 37 points clear in the championship, and his lead now stands at an unassailable 29 points going into next week's final race in Portugal.
Spaniard Marc Marquez won the MotoGP title in six of the past seven seasons and each of the past four, but has been absent since fracturing his right arm in July's season opener.
