BEB Weekend Sports: News!

Hazard scores for the first time in more than a year

Eden Hazard scored his first goal for more than a year as Real Madrid moved to the top of La Liga with an emphatic win over Huesca.
The Belgian opened the scoring with a superb left-foot shot into the left corner from outside the penalty area.

France forward Karim Benzema scored twice for the hosts, with Uruguay midfielder Federico Valverde getting their other goal. David Ferreiro scored the visitors' only goal.

Real, who had lost their previous two home fixtures, made a slow start and were fortunate not to fall behind against a Huesca side without a league win this season.

However, Hazard's goal sparked Zinedine Zidane's side into life and Benzema's neat left-foot finish then doubled their lead.

The pair then combined to lay on the third for Valverde, with Benzema rounding off the scoring with a header after Ferreiro's tap-in.

Real are now two points clear of Real Sociedad and Cadiz at the top of the table.

My time at Barcelona is over, says Guardiola

Pep Guardiola insists his time as Barcelona manager is "over" after the Manchester City boss was linked with a return to the Spanish giants.

Barcelona presidential candidate Victor Font said he would be keenexternal-link to bring back Guardiola if elected.

Guardiola won 14 trophies during his four years at the Nou Camp before departing in 2012.
"As manager of Barcelona my time is over," said Guardiola.
"I lived my period there. [Current Barcelona boss] Ronald Koeman is there, I respect him. He is an incredible friend of mine. It belongs for other people."
Guardiola was speaking after his Manchester City side beat Sheffield United 1-0 in the Premier League.

Usyk beats Chisora on points

Oleksandr Usyk delivered a stylish and measured display to pick apart Derek Chisora in a points win that underlined his credentials at heavyweight.

The former unified world cruiserweight champion moved with grace and picked punches beautifully to frustrate his British rival over 12 rounds.

An attack in the seventh sent Chisora staggering to the ropes as Usyk found ways to land while on the move.

Chisora worked hard but had no reply and lost 117-112 115-113 115-113.

In the immediate aftermath, Chisora said he felt he had done enough to beat the Ukrainian but neutrals at Wembley Arena felt Usyk comfortably merited the judges' decision.

Fans were unable to attend a heavyweight bout that was highly anticipated for the clash of styles on offer but WBA, WBO and IBF world heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua was among those watching from ringside.

With this win, Usyk, 33, remains mandatory challenger for Joshua's WBO belt and, while he may not have found the eye-catching knockout win fans so often long for at heavyweight, his skill set is obvious.

Australia’s Tour Down Under cancelled

The 2021 Tour Down Under in Australia has been cancelled because of concerns around the spread of coronavirus.

The race was scheduled to take place in Adelaide between 14 and 24 January.

It will be replaced by a smaller domestic cycling festival in 2021.
"Of course I am disappointed but, given the challenges, our priority needs to be the health and safety of South Australians, our communities, and the international cycling fraternity," said race director Stuart O'Grady.
"I believe that for one year we can put delivering an international event aside and keep our South Australian heart beating by delivering a new, reimagined event for cyclists and for communities across the nation."
The arrival of over 400 people making up the international teams proved to be the risk "most difficult to overcome", according to Hitaf Rasheed, executive director of Events South Australia.
The 11-day Tour Down Under serves as the opening event for the UCI World Tour each year.
Hazard scores for the first time in more than a year.
