Allardyce earns first West Brom win with victory over Wolves

West Brom came from behind to claim victory in the Black Country derby as two penalties from Matheus Pereira helped them beat Wolves at Molineux.

It was only the Baggies' second win of the season - and their first under new boss Allardyce - and the first time they had scored three times away from home in the Premier League in almost seven years.

While they remain in the relegation zone - five points from safety - it will provide fresh optimism about avoiding the drop.
"We are still drowning, we've still got our heads under the water, and the only way to get our heads above water is hard graft," Allardyce said.
"A run of being undefeated will help - you can see what that has done for Fulham and Brighton.
"If you can win two on the trot it is massive. It puts the fear of God into everyone else."
The result extended a miserable run for Wolves, who since striker Raul Jimenez fractured his skull at Arsenal on 29 November have taken five points from nine games and slid down the table into 14th spot, with all the clubs below them having games in hand.

Pochettino wins first trophy of managerial career

Mauricio Pochettino won the first trophy of his managerial career - albeit a minor one - as Paris St-Germain beat Marseille to win the Trophee des Champions in Lens.

It was only the former Spurs manager's third game in charge of PSG after being appointed earlier this month.
Mauro Icardi tapped home PSG's opener from close range and won a penalty which Neymar scored for the second.

Dmitri Payet scored a late consolation with a clever flick for Marseille.

The Trophee des Champions is France's version of the Community Shield - a game between the league and cup winners.

Neymar returned from a month out with an ankle injury to score from the spot for PSG, but Icardi was the game's key player. He had a goal disallowed before scoring the opener. His goal was from a rebound after his header was tipped onto the post by Steve Mandanda.

He then hit the crossbar and won the penalty when he was brought down by Marseille's substitute keeper Yohann Pele.

The victory continues PSG's dominance of French football. They have won 19 of their past 20 finals in domestic cups and have won this competition for the past eight years.

Zango breaks 18 metres indoors record

Burkina Faso's Hugues Fabrice Zango became the first athlete to triple jump over 18 metres indoors with a 18.07m effort in Aubiere, France.

The 27-year-old's effort breaks the 17.92m indoor world record set by his French coach Teddy Tamgho in 2011.

Zango, who won world bronze behind the USA's Christian Taylor and Will Claye in 2019, hopes to win his country's first Olympic medal in Tokyo this year.

Zango combines his sport with studying electrical engineering at university.

He is based at a university in Bethune, close to Lille, in northern France.

Zango's current outdoor best is 17.66m set in 2019. His coach Tamgho is one of only six men, including Edwards, Taylor and Claye, to jump over 18 metres outdoors.

Houston began post Harden era with win

The Houston Rockets began life after James Harden with a first away win of the season at the San Antonio Spurs.

Christian Wood scored 27 points and had 15 rebounds as the Rockets came from behind to win 109-105.

Harden, the top scorer in the NBA for the past three seasons, left the franchise to join the Brooklyn Nets in a multi-team deal this week.

Victory for Houston followed two consecutive home defeats by defending NBA champions Los Angeles Lakers.

Asked about the side's mentality following Harden's departure, Wood likened their resilient spirit to that of the late Lakers superstar Kobe Bryant.
"We have the Mamba mentality," Wood said.
"We are all dogs out there. Everybody wants to come out and play hard."
The 2018 NBA Most Valuable Player and an eight-time all-star, Harden, 31, had reportedly grown frustrated at Houston. Before moving to Brooklyn, he said the Rockets were "not even close" to the league's top competition.
